At the time of collecting your vehicle from
Rentforless
we take the time to familiarise you with the vehicle's safety equipment
including air-bags, hazard lights, windshield wipers, spare tyre,
seatbelts and door locks. We recommend that you check that the seating
position is comfortable and that mirrors are positioned so that
you can see traffic clearly from your normal driving position. We
will also gladly provide you with directions before leaving our
offices..
Travel Distances
Tasmania is a relatively small island enabling
you to see a lot of the state within a short time frame. However,
given the diversity of the state and the large amount of attractions
to see and explore, we recommend you take your time to not only
ensure your safety but take in all that Tasmania has to offer. Please

Speed Limits
Speed limits in Tasmania are posted in kilometres
per hour (km/h). Generally, the speed limit on open roads range
between 100-110 km/h. From 1 May 2002 the speed limit in most Tasmanian
suburban streets was reduced to 50 km/h. Please note that if there
is no speed limit sign, then the limit is 50 km/h in that street.
Those visiting Tasmania from non-Commonwealth
countries, note that you will be required to drive on the left-hand
side of the road!
Radar guns and speed cameras are used extensively
in Tasmania. Drivers should slow down if traffic, lighting or weather
conditions make it necessary. Near schools, pedestrian crossings,
rail crossings particular care is required. Special speed limits
are prescribed in certain parts of Tasmania such as near schools.
Drink driving
Strict drink-driving laws apply in Tasmania.
Random breath testing, for the checking of blood alcohol levels,
is conducted throughout Tasmania on a regular basis. All insurance
is invalid if drivers exceed the legal alcohol limit in Tasmania
which is currently 0.5mg (.05) per litre of blood.
Driver's Licence
An international visitor may drive in Australia
on a valid overseas driver's licence as long as it is for the same
class of vehicle. Always carry your licence when driving. If your
licence is not in English, you must carry a translation. An international
driver's permit must be accompanied by a valid driver's permit.
4WD driving in australia
Renforless reserves the right to restrict
vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road and weather
conditions. With 4WD, Motor Homes and Campervans there are few restrictions
on where the vehicles may go however the vehicle must stay on recognised
gazetted roads or risk invalidating your insurance. If unsure about
the area you are travelling to please tlak to your Rentforless
customer services representative..
Petrol Prices
Petrol in Australia comes in premium, unleaded
and leaded grades and is sold by the litre. Petrol and diesel fuel
in Tasmania currently costs between AUD $1.35 and AUD $1.55 per
litre however it can be higher in country and remote areas. Please
also note that whilst fuel stops are generally plentiful it is recommended
that you maintain a full fuel tank; especially if travelling late
at night. Most fuel outlets accept most major credit cards.
Keep left !
We drive on the left side of the road in
Tasmania and all driver must keep left of the centre of the road
unless overtaking or turning right.
Night Driving
You must drive with your headlights and
rear lights on between sunset and sunrise. During days with conditions
of poor visibility, i.e. fog or rain, it is also recommended that
you drive with your lights on. Low beam must be used in suburban
areas and when using high beam on the open road, dip your headlights
when an approaching vehicle is within 200m or as soon as the other
vehicle's lights are dipped.
Passing / Overtaking
On the highway or open road drivers must
stay in the left lane unless overtaking (right lane is for overtaking
vehicles.) Please take care when driving on unfamiliar roads and
note that crossing the centre line of the road on a blind crest
or a curve is strictly prohibited.
Parking
Parking of vehicles and disabled parking
is controlled by the various local government authorities throughout
Tasmania. In major cities, parking areas will often have pole signage
advising of parking restrictions. During business hours some public
parking areas are limited to certain times so please ensure you
observe parking restrictions. Most major towns and cities use different
types of parking meters or ticket vending machines so be sure to
check and pay applicable parking fees.
Reporting an accident
Driver must stop and render assistance in
the event that they come across an accident. In the event that you
are involved in an accident the name and address of the driver and
owner of the vehicles involved should be exchanged between those
parties involved. In the event that there is personal injury ot
the possibility of injury or significant damage arising from the
accident, it must be reported immediately to the Police. The emergecy
number for Police, Fire and Ambulance in Tasmania is 000.
It is also recommended that you check with
local Police at the time of an accident in relation to reporting
procedures and report any accident to Rentforless
or risk invalidation of your rental agreement.
Safety
Under no circumstances should you leave luggage
unattended or valuables visible in your rental vehicle. Take extra
care to carry valuables with you and ensure your vehicle is safley
locked before leaving the vehicle.
Seat belts and child restraints
It is compulsory for drivers and passengers
to wear seatbelts at all times whilst driving in Tasmania. Children
must be properly restrained by an approved child restraint or adult
seat belt if fitted to the vehicle. Baby and child seats can be
hired from both Rentforless
at the time of booking.
Traffic Infringements
If you are fined, the fine will be sent
to Rentforless
who will in turn charge the renter for any traffic infringement
notices, parking fines or unreported vehicle or third party damage. |
