Launceston Airport is a regional airport located just outside of the Northern Tasmanian city of Launceston. Situated in the rural area of Western Junction, the airport is located 15 kilometres from the Launceston City Centre. The airport is the second busiest in the state, after the capital city of Hobart Airport, and also has the ability to run as a curfew free airport. It is currently Australia's 12th busiest airport, handling over 1.1 million passengers in 2008. Australia Pacific Airports Corporation (APAC), in partnership with the Launceston City Council, took over the lease for Launceston Airport in 1998. The Airport is majority Australian owned and is managed locally for the benefit of the wider Northern Tasmanian region.
